ABOUT REIKI:
Reiki is a form of energy healing that originated in Japan in the early 20th century. Reiki is rooted in the core belief that energy flows through all living beings and that we all have access to healing universal energy, which can restore balance and support the body’s natural healing ability. Eastern philosophy’s and systems of healing often address blockages and imbalances in our energetic body, which are thought to cause illness and distress. I resonate with this system and appreciate the training I have received in learning to integrate energy healing as a complementary method for bringing relaxation, pain relief, improved mood, stress reduction and possibly even physical and emotional healing to my clients. If you’d like to learn about reiki beyond what is provided here, or book a session to receive a reiki treatment, please contact me. I love to share this energy and the insights and knowledge I have accumulated in my journeys!
The word REIKI refers to a universal life force energy and comes from two Japanese words:
“Rei” meaning “universal” or “spiritual” (accessible to ALL)
“KI” meaning “life energy” (similar to chi in Chinese and Prana in Indian traditions)
What happens during a reiki session:
We begin by becoming acquainted with one another and discussing the process, allowing time for questions and settling into the space.
The recipient is fully clothed and may choose to sit in a chair or lay down on a massage table.
I typically light a candle and play soft music in the background, to promote a sense of relaxation. We can add to this via incense and a sound healing bath or other subtract elements for your greatest comfort.
I will then say a prayer of intention and begin the session.
The practitioner gently places their hands on or just above the recipient, scanning the energy field and then transferring the universal life force energy to the recipient while moving over the body, using my intuition to guide the process and our prior discussion to guide the length of time.
Reiki is also often referred to as hands on healing, because the life force energy flows through the practitioner to the client and often is felt as a warm sensation radiating from my hands. I am not where the healing energy comes from, but just a vessel for healing to flow through.
Reiki often provides the recipient with a sense of deep relaxation, emotional and mental peace, and promotes physical well being. Some believe that the effects support physical healing and others feel they have intuitive moments of clarity and deep awareness. Each experience will vary for the client.
Reiki is a complementary therapy, not a replacement for medical treatment. It is part of a holistic and integrative approach to wellness, not a substitution in place of medicines or therapies.
